Diagnosis of the experimental lung cancer by means of labelled albumin microspheres

Description
It has been found in experimental studies that the accumulation of labelled albumin microspheres, 9-20 μm in diameter, in lung sites affected with the malignant tumor is 2.5-6.1 times lower than in the adjacent sites. The rate of specific activity of the affected lung sites practically does not change within 24 hours. The same regularity is observed in lung sites next to the tumour in experimental rabbits. In control rabbits the level of pulmonary activity decreases and after 24 hr 1.89+-0.10% of the injected drug remains in 1 g of lung tissue against 6.38+-0.65% after 1 hr following the injection. Thus, it has been found that the withdrawal of the label out of the lungs affected by a malignant tumour is slower than in control animals. The labelled albumin microspheres can be used for dynamic examination of microcirculation in tumour affected lungs during 24 hr. visualization of lesion foci, localization and distribution of the tumour process
