Spectrophotometric determination of gelation dose in the γ-irradiation of polyvinylchloride

Description
The gelation dose of polymers irradiated with ionizing radiations is generally determined either by viscometric or solubility methods. For polymers discoloring and predominantly crosslinking upon irradiation the gelation doses can be determined by spectrophotometric methods. In this study it is shown that for γ-irradiated polyvinylchloride the onset of gelation can be determined spectrophotometrically. The reliability of the method is further checked by visometric and solubility methods. (author)
