Molybdenum and vanadium effects on structure and properties of electrolytic chromium coating

  • 1. Moskovskij Vechernij Metallurgicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

Structural peculiarities are studied and mechanical properties are determined in the electrolytic coatings produced by codeposition of chromium with vanadium and molybdenum on steel. The coating properties are compared with those of chromium electrolyte coatings. It is found that chromium-vanadium-molybdenum coatings possess the finest structure and the minimum crack amount. A chromium-vanadium-molybdenum coating fractures according to a shear mechanism while a chromium coating fractures by cleavage
