WAGR waves farewell
Creators
Description
The decommissioning of Windscale Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (WAGR) is described. The work is being carried out as part of a pilot project for the European Commission's Nuclear Decommissioning Programme and is now entering the final stage of reactor core dismantling. To this end, remote dismantling machinery has been installed and reactor operators will shortly be trained to use it. The successful completion of the work is seen as vital to proving the feasibility of reactor decommissioning in the United Kingdom. (UK)
