The quadrupoles and its formation constant in an electrolytic solution of lithium perchlorate in tetrahydrofuran plus formic acid, at 298.15 K

Description

The condutance data for the electrolytic solutions of LiclO4 in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran (THF) plus formic acid, indicate the existence of pairs, triple ions and quadrupoles. The association constantes K sub(a) and K sub(t) for the ion pairs and triple ions, respectively, have been included in a previous paper, where those experimental results have been published. Now, through an analysis accounting simultaneously for the pairs, triple ions and quadrupoles in the solution, the quadrupole formation constant K sub(q) has been calculated, together with K sub(a) and K sub(t). The activity coefficients have been obtained by means of the Debye-Huckel's theory, Stockes radii and solvation numbers have been estimated and the structure of the ionic aggregates discussed. Abstract (Portuguese)

Os resultados, obtidos por medicao da condutividade de solucoes eletroliticas de LiClO4 em misturas de tetrahidrofurano (THF) e acido formico, indicam a existencia de agregados ionicos: pares (ionicos), ioes triplos e quadrupolos. Em trabalho anterior, de onde constam os referidos resultados, foram calculadas as constantes de associacao paa pares, K sub(a) e ions triplos, K sub(t). Recalculam-se aqui as referidas constantes mediante uma equacao que permite a obtencao simultanea da constante de associacao quadrupolar K sub(q). Os coeficientes de atividade sao dados pela lei de Debye-Huckel. Estimam-se raios de Stockes e numeros de solvatacao. Discute-se a estrutura dos agregados ionicos. (Autor)
