Waste storing facilities
Description
Purpose: To prevent leakage of deleterious materials to the periphery of storing facilities for containing wastes, thereby preventing contaminations to the surrounding foundation or underwater. Constitution: Water permeable adsorptive wall units are built into a predetermined depth as a square section surrounding the periphery of a storing facility to constitute continuous walls therearound. The adsorptive wall units contains adsorbents capable of adsorbing radioactive materials and also has water permeability. They were detachably built-in unit by unit to constitute continuous walls. Accordingly, if deleterious materials dissolved in water are leached out of a pit, since they are adsorbed in the course of permeating the adsorbent layers, there are no contaminations for the surrounding foundation or underwater due to leached water. Further, since the adsorbents can be taken out on every units and activated, maintenance of the adsorbents is facilitated. (Takahashi, M.)
