Radiologic measurements as method for assessment of the therapy response of solid tumors
Description
Radiological follow-ups involving measurement of tumor size is a widely used method for assessing therapy response in oncology. It is a common task for the oncological radiologist in everyday practice. Knowledge of the established criteria for evaluating tumor response to treatment is necessary for interpreting radiological findings. This article describes the commonly used RECIST criteria (response evaluation criteria in solid tumors). The history of RECIST and especially the antecedent WHO criteria are briefly addressed. Limitations of these criteria are discussed and possible future developments such as computerized measurement of tumor volume are pointed out. (orig.)
