99Tcm-octreotide imaging in the diagnosis of breast cancer: a preliminary clinical application

Description
Objective: To evaluate the clinical application of 99Tcm-octreotide imaging in the diagnosis of breast cancer. Methods: 99Tcm-octreotide imaging and B-ultrasonography were performed on 21 patients with breast masses, and the imaging findings were compared with pathology. The imaging was defined as a positive result when focal radioactivity increased in the breast or/and axillary region. Results: 16 patients out of 21 were confirmed as breast cancer. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 99Tcm-octreotide imaging in the diagnosis of primary breast cancer was 93.8%, 80.0% and 90.5% respectively. Compared with ultrasonography, the 99Tcm-octreotide imaging was superior in specificity (P<0.01), but there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in sensitivity and accuracy. Conclusion: 99Tcm-octreotide imaging is accurate in the diagnosis of breast cancer and helps the surgery planning
