Utilization of other quality assurance standards than CSA CAN3.Z299/NRAC AQ-04 for the procurement of CANDU NPP items and services

The Romanian prescription which establishes the specific Quality Assurance requirements for items and services for nuclear facilities and installations is NRAC AQ-04/1983. This prescription is equivalent to the CSA CAN3.Z299 series of standards. The most important problem in procurement activities for Cernavoda Unit 1 and 2 is at present the large utilization of other manufacturing Quality Program Standards (especially the ISO 9000 standards) by the potential suppliers of items. The design were procurement documents may call up CSA CAN3.Z299/NRAC AQ-04 standards, but the supplier has established a program to an other standard. For such cases, it is necessary to know how to obtain an equivalence. The paper suggests the methods for obtaining this equivalence of the CSA CAN3.Z299/NRAC AQ-04 standards to the other widely-used international standards in the Procurement Quality Assurance field.
