Quadrupole relaxation rates of 71Ge and 115Sn nuclei in liquid GaIn alloys
- 1. Freie Univ. Berlin (Germany, F.R.). Fachbereich Physik
Description
In-beam measurements of relaxation rates tausup(-1)sub(R) in pure liquid metals have been extended to the alloy system InGa. As probe nuclei served excited states in 71Ge(9/2+, Tsub(1/2) = 20 ms) and in 115Sn(11/2-, Tsub(1/2) = 160 μs) which have been used before to measure tausup(-1)sub(R) rates in Ga and in In respectively. The experiments were performed because of two reasons: (i) to get information about the temperature and composition dependence of the quadrupole part tausup(-1)sub(Q) of the total rate. (ii) Since tausup(-1)sub(Q) rates for the system 69Ga (stable) in liquid InGa alloys are known by conventional NMR work the quadrupole moment Q of the ms state in 71Ge can be estimated by comparing the tausup(-1)sub(Q) data.
