Hyperon non-leptonic decays and baryon structure

Description

We present here a novel approach to non-leptonic hyperon decays, whose main assumption is that the weak interaction of hadrons differs from the basic weak interaction of quarks due to the long-range behavior of the strong forces. The implementation of these features is developed through the description of hadron structure by the chiral bag model. To this strong interaction scheme we incorporate the weak interactions through the requirement of local gauge invariance under the weak group. In this way we obtain a well-defined scheme which we apply to the Λ-decays. Our model satisfies the ΔI=1/2 rule. The calculated s-wave amplitude is in good agreement with experiment. The calculated p-wave amplitude is well described qualitatively but corrections to our scheme have to be introduced to obtain a quantitative fit. The results regarding other hyperons are briefly discussed. (orig.)
