Influence of heat treatment on acoustic emission from 17-4PH steel during fracture toughness testing
Description
Acoustic Emission (AE) monitoring in conjunction with fracture toughness testing of J-integral specimens was employed to investigate crack initiation and growth in 17-4PH steel heat treated to various strength levels. AE data were recorded and correlated with variations in fracture toughness test behavior. J-Integral fracture toughness values calculated from load-displacement curves and AE data were found to correlate well with both fracture toughness obtained by R-curve (compliance) methods and J-integral data found by load-displacement curves at maximum load or pop-in. 7 refs
