Description
γ decaying states at high excitation in 20Ne have been studied via the 12C(12C, αγ)20Ne reaction in an attempt to identify new unnatural parity levels in 20Ne. In addition to γ ray decay schemes, accurate measurements of the ratio of cross sections at average scattering angles of 120 and 10 were made, and the combination of a strong γ decay mode and vanishing cross section at 00 were taken as the signature of an unnatural parity level. Previously suggested unnatural parity levels at 9.88 +- 0.03, 10.69 +- 0.02, 11.56 +- 0.02, and 11.67 +- 0.03 MeV have been confirmed, and limits on their spins and parities have been established from the γ ray decay schemes. The results are compared with shell model calculations
