Technique of X-ray study of small intestine

  • 1. Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sofia (Bulgaria). Central Clinical Hospital

Description

The X-ray diagnostic methods most frequently used for examination of small intestine are discussed on the ground of clinical data of a total of 3996 patients. The conventional passage at hours 4 and 6 p.c. is definitely discarded as a diagnostic procedure. The passage of the contrast media through the small bowel at short time intervals, effective in over 60% of cases, is used instead. A conduct passage for investigation of the ileocecal area proves effective in 83%. Some variants of accelerated passage are used to detect circumscribed changes mainly. The diagnostic efficiency is considerably enhanced pharmacodynamically trough intravenous injection of spasmolytics. Enteroclysis at suspension temperature of 5oC gives rise to bowel discomfort in 50% of the patients under study. The possibility of using suspension with temperature of 18oC in conjunction with pharmacodiagnostic agents and double contrast roentgenography is discussed. 17 refs. (orig.)
