Radiation protection instrumentation - Recommended climatic, electromagnetic and mechanical performance requirements and methods of tests (IEC 62706:2019)

Radiation protection measuring instruments, including those used for the detection and identification of radioactive materials and radionuclides, are used in many different environments. They are typically exposed to various temperatures, relative humidities, electromagnetic fields and mechanical stresses, such as shocks and vibrations, when used as intended. This standard specifies the environmental, mechanical and electromagnetic performance requirements for radiation protection measuring instruments and the corresponding test methods. It also provides guidance on setting up the test facility and the equipment to be tested for specific tests. The objective of this standard is to define the environments to be used for design and test purposes to which radiation protection measuring instruments may be exposed. The environments covered in this standard apply to body-worn (for example, personal radiation detectors, backpack detectors and dosimeters), hand-held, portable and transportable, mobile and fixed measuring devices. Responsible is the DKE/GK 851 "Activity measuring devices for radiation protection" of the DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies in DIN and VDE.
