Description
A project is under way addressing the issue of radiation embrittlement of the steel of the reactor pressure vessels (RPVs) at Units 1 and 2 of the Jaslovske Bohunice V1 NPP. The principles of radiation embrittlement theory are outlined and the results derived from the evaluation of unirradiated samples and samples after one irradiation cycle are presented. The results of the new Surveillance Specimen Programme will allow us, in addition to the assessment of radiation embrittlement, to determine the level of recovery of the RPV material after annealing, as well the repeated embrittlement trends after repeated annealing. The results should serve to estimate the actual properties of the two RPVs with a view to demonstrating that RPV radiation damage is not a limiting factor in a safe operation of the plant. (author)
