Description

The pulse radiolysis of liquid methylcyclohexane containing carbon tetrachloride has been investigated over the temperature range 142 to 173 K. Formation of the CCl4+ cation, the precursor of CCl4.Cl, is accounted for by reaction of CCl4 with the excited methylcyclohexane cation MCH+*. The observed decay of CCl4.Cl and of CCl3 is explained using nonhomogeneous kinetic treatment. Evidence that excited cations play a great role in the radiolysis of hydrocarbons at low temperature is given. (author)
