Leukemia in irradiated parabiotic rats
Description
NEDH rats usually have a low (1%) incidence of leukemia, chiefly myeloid in type. Thls is slightly increased (5%) by parabiosis, especially in females. A dose of 1000 R of x-radiation to one of the pair lowers the incidence of leukemia, but not to usual spontaneous levels. Leukemia may develop in only one of the parabiont pair, which, due to the intimate relationship of the two, would be unlikely to occur if the disease were virus induced. (auth)
