Note of the impact about consequences of the geopolitical situation in Ukraine on the wood-energy sector with collective/industrial/tertiary usages - 15 April 2022. An energy market under stress, the pellet sector in action to bring solutions - Situation note

After a brief recall of the situation of the wood-energy sector in France (first renewable energy in France), a first note indicates factors and trends which explain a non predictable increase of wood-energy demand, evokes difficulties faced by the sector because of this increase, outlines the important and fast emergence of over-costs (notably due the related fossil fuel consumption, and to the context of energy crisis), and discusses financial implications for the sector and the necessity of a public support. Issues relative to raw material supply are also addressed. Some recommendations are stated. Within the context of an energy market under stress in France and in Europe, a second note more particularly focuses on the wood pellet sector: overview of the pellet supply situation in France and in Europe, a still competitive pellet price. It outlines that this young and dynamic sector is bringing solutions, the necessity of a State support, and the importance of collective responsibility to reach objectives of energy transition
