Infrared spectroscopy of reaction products of holmium and europium atoms with bromine and iodine molecules in argon matrices

Description

Infrared spectra of interaction products of holmium and europium atoms with Br2 and I2 molecules in matrices from Ar at 14-30 K are investigated in the region from 400 to 40 cm-1. It is established that molecules of LnX2- and LnX3-type are formed as a result of reactions and in Eu+X2 systems there is mainly EuX2, but in Ho+X2 systems there is both HoX2 and HoX3. Frequencies of valence oscillations of LnX2 and LnX3 molecules are measured. Weak bands in the high-frequency region of the Ho+Br2, I2 system spectra are hypothetically related to holmium monohalogenides. The mechanism of reactions during reagent cocondensation is briefly discussed
