Description

Eulytite-like compounds A(II)3.5B(IV)0.5(PO4)3 have been synthesized with the couples A(II)/B(IV) = Pb/Th. Pb/Ti, Sr/Th and Ba/Th. In spite of long annealings, no superstructure was observed. Nevertheless, after incorporation of europium according to A2++B4+=2 Eu3+, the emission spectra revealed a local order in the lead compounds. This ordering must originate in the covalency of the Pb-O bonds and the stereochemical role of the electronic lone pair of the Pb(II) atoms. Influence of other factors (thermal treatments, europium content, polarizing power of cations) has been also studied
