Description
The Whipple's disease is very rarely diagnosed. Mainly the small intestine is involved but also manifestations in other organs are observed. The diagnosis is based on the identification of pathognomonic PAS-positive macrophages in the stratum proprium of the mucosa. Bacteria with a typical outer membrane external of the cell wall are found by electron microscopic technique. It is reported about one patient with this disease. Different aspects of roentgenological findings of the small intestine are characterized. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
(orig.)Additional details
