Simulation of a double-sided microstrip silicon detector: signal correlation

Description

The two external layers of the Inner Tracker System (ITS) of the ALICE experiment will be equipped with Silicon Strip Detector. One of the main problems will be the high particle multiplicity in each collision. In the case of double-sided silicon strip detectors, one way to solve the ambiguous tracks is to use the signals from both sides and do a charge matching. In this report, we investigate the number of ambiguous tracks according to the current design of the detector and discuss the results of the charge matching algorithm. The configuration which seemingly appear to be the most convenient is that of a double-sided detector with 300 μm thickness and a solid angle of 100 mrad. Actually, this angle represents a good trade between a good position resolution along the beam axis and a good efficiency of the tracking representation
