Hydrogen fuel for transportation (potential, problems and possibilities)

The present status and technical problems associated with hydrogen generation, its on-board storage and its efficient use in automobiles are discussed. Studies being carried out at the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi as a part of the national effort aimed at utilisation of hydrogen fuel in the transportation sector are briefly described. Cost estimates for : (1) on-board storage system for hydrogen, (2) a liquid hydrogen fueled vehicle, and (3) operating such vehicles are discussed. (M.G.B.). 3 figs
