Physical processes in an ''electron laser''

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Fizicheskij Inst.

Description

Investigation are the physical peculiarities and potential possibilities of mechanisms of induced magnetic bremsstrahlung (ondulator) radiation in optical and more sportwave ranges in the 1 cm long radiator system with 50 MeV electron beam so called ''an electron laser''. To generate waves of the range under consideration it is necessary to meet two requirements: availability of spontaneous radiation in a shortwave range and provision for mechanism resulting in the exponential increasing the field of coherent radiation with respect to a choosen frequency. Beam evolution on a phase plane is considered. It is shown that induced radiation is accompanied with decrease of a mean electron energy as well as appearances of energy distribution and longitudinal modulation of density. To increase the electron efficiency it is suggested to use multiple passing of the same beam circulating in a magnetic system of the storage ring type. Tentative parameters of the ''electron laser'' of the infrared range are given
