Hydrodynamic study of the rotating cylinder mixer of a laboratory centrifugal extractor
Description
As part of a research programme on solvent extraction kinetics the Fontenay-aux-Roses Nuclear Research Centre has undertaken to build a new centrifugal extractor prototype. The work was centred on a hydrodynamic study of the rotating cylinder mixer of the extractor, using a test apparatus specially designed for this purpose. This apparatus was used to determine the flow conditions of a liquid alone in the annular space of the mixer as a function of the working specifications. The existence of several types of flow was established. The stability region of which was determined as a function of different parameters for a number of liquid-liquid systems. The experiments showed in addition that two kinds of dispersion can be obtained, differing by the nature of the continuous phase. This was determined for various parameters of certain liquid-liquid systems. From this research the hydrodynamic behavior of the CEA centrifugal extractor prototype mixer is thus known

Dans le cadre d'un programme d'etude des cinetiques d'extraction par solvants, le Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Fontenay-aux-Roses s'est engage dans la realisation d'un nouveau prototype d'extracteur centrifuge. Les travaux ont consiste en l'etude hydrodynamique du melangeur a cylindre tournant de cet extracteur, au moyen d'un appareil d'etude specialement concu a cet effet. Cet appareil a permis de determiner la nature du regime d'ecoulement d'un liquide seul dans l'espace annulaire du melangeur en fonction des caracteristiques de fonctionnement. L'existence de plusieurs formes d'ecoulement a ete etablie dont nous avons pu determiner le domaine de stabilite en fonction de differents parametres, pour un certain nombre de systemes liquide-liquide. Les experiences ont par ailleurs montre que deux types de dispersions peuvent etre obtenus, qui different par la nature de la phase continue. On a determine celle-ci en fonction des divers parametres pour un certain nombre de systemes liquide-liquide. L'ensemble de ces travaux permet ainsi de connaitre le comportement hydrodynamique du melangeur du prototype d'extracteur centrifuge du CEAFiles
