The treatment of radioactive effluent water in nuclear power stations

  • 1. Laboratoire Belge de l'Industrie Electrique (LABORELEC), Rhode-St. Genese

Description

The treatment of radioactive effluents can lead to problems because of the presence of detergents. The principal radioactive pollutants are in general Cs-134 and Cs-437. Treatment with copper ferro-cyanide is envisaged. The decontamination factors for various isotopes are quoted and coagulation equipment is planned. The treatment of mixed radioactive effluents is investigated under various conditions. The proposed process is simple and leads to activity concentrations markedly below 5 x 10-5 Ci/m3 at a cost of about DM 1.20/m3. A total concentration factor of 800 is possible. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

(orig.)
