Lifetime of the positive muon and a new value for G/sub μ/

Description

In the course of an experiment to determine the muon magnetic moment, the mean life of the positive muon at rest has been determined to be 2.200 26 ± 0.000 81 μsec. Using this value and the new muon mass as determined from the magnetic moment, one finds the weak-interaction coupling constant in muon decay to be Gμ=(1.43481±0.00026)×1049 erg cm³.
