Simple differential functional study of the kidney using sup(99m) technetium DMSA

Description

A simple technique has been developed to study the differential kidney function. It involves the intravenous injection of a product labelled with sup(99m)Tc, which possesses in vivo the characteristics of organo-mercurial derivatives. High-resolution kidney images are obtained, eliminating the excretion component which may be obtained with DTPA type products studying the glomerular filtration. The absolute quantitative uptake and the left kidney to right kidney activity ratio were measured successfully. This technique should find an increasing application in the evaluation of patients suffering from various kidney disorders including hypertension and acute pyelonephritis

Abstract (French)

Une technique a ete developpee afin d'obtenir une etude de la fonction differentielle renale de maniere simple. Elle consiste a injecter par voie intraveineuse un produit marque par le sup(99m)Tc qui possede in vivo les caracteristiques des derives organomercuriels. Des images renales a haute resolution sont obtenues. Elles permettent d'eliminer la composante d'excretion qui peut etre obtenue avec des produits type DTPA etudiant la filtration glomerulaire. La fixation quantitative absolue et le rapport activite du rein gauche sur celle du rein droit a ete mesuree avec succes. Cette technique devrait trouver une utiliaation croissante dans l'evaluation des patients atteints d'affections renales variees incluant l'hypertension et la pyelonephrite aigue
