Description

This document makes an outline of the creation of IAEA in 1957. Its main purpose, which is to promote the peaceful applications of nuclear energy in the whole world, and at the same time, retrain the diffusion of its use with destructive purposes. It also mentions in detail the background for the establishment of the Non-proliferation Treaty. Some of the reasons for this were: nuclear tests carried out in different countries, during the decade of 1960. This Treaty has evolved and has improved in recent years. Many countries around the world have added to it. The Agency has also signed regional and local treaties, with the same objective or similar ones. This document mentions violations of the Safeguards by Iraq. The procedures followed by the Agency to eliminate some nuclear weapons, the periodical inspection of the situation, the creation of a vigilance system and verification, in the long run by the Nuclear Vigilance Group, of the Agency, which has the support of a Special Commission of the United Nations. Something similar happened with the Democratic People Republic of Korea that required supervision of the Agency. (S. Grainger)
