10Be: suitable tracer for biogenic particle flux in the southern ocean?

Description
Boundary scavenging leads to an increased flux of 10Be into the sediments of high particle flux areas, for example at ocean margins. Therefore, the flux 10Be into the sediments of the opal belt of the Southern Ocean was expected to be a proxy indicator for biogenic flux. However, the flux of aluminosilicates shows a better correlation to the 10Be flux than the biogenic particle flux. (author) 1 fig., 5 refs
