Description

This paper proposes the design of a rotating shaft using a washer to improve the lubrication performance under the high side-load condition. Three types of washers made of alloy tool steel-a general single washer, dimpletype single washer, and dimple-type dual washer-were tested. The test was performed by applying a side load of 100 to 500 kgf to the end of the overhang side-load bar mounted on the rotating shaft, and then measuring the equivalent friction coefficient. The experimental results showed that the lubrication performance of the rotating shaft with washers was improved compared to that without washers for all values of the side load applied to the rotating shaft. This indicates that the washer was effective in improving the lubrication performance of the rotating shaft. Among the three types of washers, the dimple-type dual washer exhibited high lubrication performance in all tests
