Description

Highlights: • Existence of fluorite and pyrochlore phase field in YSZ – PuO2 under vacuum heating condition. • Stabilization of defect fluorite and pyrochlore stuctures by 20 & 50 mol% Pu substitution in ZrO2. • Phase relations controlled by redox behaviour of Pu upon changing the annealing atmospheres. • Pyrochlore phase formation occurs by interplay of average cation size and oxygen vacancies. • Sintering temperature in YSZ-PuO2 system identified as 1773 K.
