Drawing up a local strategy for the energy transition in Mayotte - National debate on energy transition

The findings on the possible development of renewable energy in Mayotte over the next few years are as follows: Biogas potential estimated at 1.2 MW by 2018; Wind power potential confirmed, but direct competition with photovoltaics for the threshold of 30% injected from random and intermittent energies is not conducive to project development; Biomass potential (coconut or green waste) to be explored further; Hydraulic potential to be confirmed for direct industrial use (e.g. seawater desalination for example); Hydraulic pumped storage project to be developed; No short-term prospects for geothermal energy. Since 2005, EDM (Mayotte Electricity) and the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) have been actively promoting electricity demand management in Mayotte, believing that it must be at the very heart of the territory's energy strategy. The scenario announced by EDM is a minimum doubling of electricity needs by 2025. The objective set for Mayotte by the Grenelle Environment Round Table is to reach a 30% share of renewable energies in the overall energy mix, which currently stands at just 2%. The effort is therefore considerable, and must involve all consumer uses. The outlooks are presented here by type of secondary energy consumption (electricity, transport, other uses)
