Calculation of the external dose rate in the spent fuel pool for the case to use compact racks
Description
The possible introduction of compact racks in the spent fuel pool of the Angra 1 Nuclear Power Plant largely inreases its storage capacity, but originates an increase of the gamma radiation sources. The precise evaluation of the effects of the adoption of this option on the external gamma dose rates and also on the thickness of the concrete shielding requires the utilization of sofisticated computer codes (QAD, ANISN), which allow the calculation of the gamma dose rates through thick shielding walls. This paper describes the utilized methodology for the calculation of the modified pool shieldings, showing the obtained results for the Angra 1 NPP case. The gamma dose rate was calculated with the point Kernel model, first analytically, and later through utilization of the tridimensional multigroup QAD computer code. (author)

A introducao da opcao de armazenamento compacto na piscina de elementos combustiveis ''queimandos'' de Angra 1 pode aumentar em muito sua capacidade, originando porem um aumento tambem nas fontes de radiacao gama. A avaliacao precisa dos efeitos da adocao desta opcao sobre as taxas de dose externas a piscina e consequentemente sobre as espessuras de blindagem necessarias, requer o uso de codigos de computador sofisticados (QAD, ANISN), os quais permitem calculo de taxa de dose em blindagens de grandes espessuras. O presente trabalho objetiva descrever a metodologia utilizada para os calculos da blindagem da piscina modificada, apresentando os resultados obtidos para o caso da central nuclear de Angra 1. A taxa de dose de radiacao gama foi calculada com o modelo '''point Kernel', primeiro analiticamente e em segundo lugar, com auxilio do codigo de computador QAD, tridimensional.
