Jet fragmentation at hadron colliders
Description
The current state of knowledge of jet fragmentation into charged hadrons is reviewed with data from experiments at the CERN ISR and Spp-barS collider facilities. Statistically, and within a given experiment, it is possible to use the longitudinal fragmentation function to distinguish between jets having either a quark or gluon origin. Transversely, the situation is much less clearer but data on charge distribution and charge compensation within jets can also give useful separation. Published values indicate a significant low value of the total charged energy fraction in jets which is not easily explained
