Shape evolution of composite systems formed in heavy ion collisions

Description
The evolution of the shape of the composite system, formed in the head-on collisions of two identical ions is analysed. The model in which the potential forces are approximated by the Coulomb interaction and the surface tension is used. It is shown that the evolution of the shape of the composite system is not monotonic and that the time before acquiring a spherical shape is longer that estimated for the fusion of asymmetric systems. 16 refs., 9 figs
