Passive emergency core cooling system for a liquid metal fast breeder reactor
Description
A passive decay heat removal system in which gas pressurization of a gap between the double walls of heat exchanger tubes initiates heat removal by triggering an increase in tube heat conductivity. Coolant circulates by natural convection between a cooler in the reactor and heat exchanger which is cooled also by natural convection. When a sensor senses that operation of the system is required, a valve is opened to pressurise the heat exchanger tube wall gap which was previously evacuated. (author)
