Observations of night-time cold ion fluxes from plasmasphere to ionosphere at medium latitudes

Description

Consideration is being given to results of measuring the rates and magnitudes of cold ion fluxes from the plasmaspheAe to the ionosphere obtained by means of the system of two plane electrostatic analyzers with decelerating potential (plane ion traps). The analysers were installed in the device container of the Vertikal-10 qeoohysical rocket that was launched on December, 25, 1981 at 18.35 UT, 22.35 MLT in the region of Volgograd to on the trajectory dose to a vertical one. One of the analyzers was oriented upwards, another - downwards. They detected the current anisotropy in the Aegion of container falling from the trajectory peak at altitudes from 1508 km down to 1438 km. The current of the analyzer oriented upwards exceeded that of the analyzer oriented downwards. It was concluded from the obtained experimental data that a cold plasma flux from the plasmasphere to the ionosphere having the rate of approximately 103 m/s was detected during the flight of the Vertikal-10 rocket
