Development of a mathematical model for the dissolution of uranium dioxide. I. Mathematical model for the dissolution of powdered uranium dioxide in nitric acid

Description

A statistical model is proposed that helps to describe a set of experimental kinetic curves for the dissolution of uranium dioxide powders of different particle size composition in the 6 to 12 M nitric acid concentration range and temperatures from 600C to the boiling point. It was possible to use a simplex method to evaluate the model's parameters. The model was shown to predict the system's properties quite accurately when tested with independent experimental data: the mean-square deviation was about 5%
