Description

The CANDU reactor's share of the world market is about 5% in terms of generating capacity. This is not a large figure, but it is about what would be expected in relation to other Canadian exports of generating equipment, provided that one takes into account the fact that certain markets are arbitrarily closed to CANDU. Canada has a large deficit in high-technology trade, but that is due more to high imports than to low exports. CANDU technology, and its spin-off in isotopes and irradiation facilities, do help to redress the balance of high-technology trade somewhat. CANDU is, moreover, a unique and irreplaceable Canadian achievement and opportunity
