Upon the radiation chemistry of aqueous solutions of citric and tartaric acids

Description

Aqueous solutions of citric and tartaric acids of different concentrations were irradiated using a 60C source at an absorbed dose rate of about 5x103 rads per minute. A known concentration of Sb(III) was incorporated in the irradiated solutions. Solvent extraction and radiometric methods were used to determine the oxidation yield of Sb(III). Based on the experimental data the observed depression in G of Sb(III) by the addition of increasing amounts of citric and tartaric acids was used to calculate the bimolecular rate constants for the reaction between the CH radical and the concerned acids
