Description

Calcium carbonate and calcium oxide are important substances from the industrial point of view, since they are used by several sectors. Thus, this work carried out the characterization of these substances, from a source of alternative and sustainable raw material, sun coral (Tubastraea spp.), an invasive coral species in Brazilian waters, in order to evaluate future applications for the material. For this, the physical, chemical and thermal characteristics were evaluated using XRD, XRF, TGA and particle size distribution. The results obtained were a high concentration of calcium carbonate in the samples, being in the form of aragonite, besides thermal decomposition temperature, for decomposition of calcium carbonate in calcium oxide in the range between 720 ° C and 880 ° C, confirmed by the diffractogram of the sample after calcination.
