Armor calculation for the installation of a therapy equipment superficial T-200 (Wormed)

Description

To install a superficial radiotherapy equipment, in a relatively small room, it was necessary calculate the shields and remodel the room, the calculation was optimized, to guarantee the restrictions dose at each point and at the same time that it will not affect the area for its location. The methodology described in IAEA Safety Reports No. 47. Radiation Protection in the Design of Radiotherapy Facilities. They are often used for shielding, concrete, lead, steel / iron due to its well-known characteristics, here we propose the use of refractory bricks, due to its properties (density 3.5 g / cm3) and strict quality control. It was our goal to carry out the calculation to determine the thickness of the barrier, using the aforementioned material and validate its use as a low-cost material, available in the country, mainly in those constructions that must be remodeled, due to their easy handling and the characteristics of said material. The equipment to be installed, a T-200 (WOmed), between 20 - 200 Kv, (superficial radiotherapy). The calculations were made taking into account the characteristics of the existing walls, the location and orientation of the equipment, as well as the distance to the calculation point, according to the information supplied by the manufacturer. The thicknesses required for each of the barriers are shown, (effective concrete thicknesses 2.35 g / cm3) and its equivalent in refractory bricks. All walls should be reinforcing them. The roof, being an area with restricted access, is sufficient to maintain strict control measures in the area.
