Derivation and test of accuracy of an IBM-like hamiltonian for a model with SO(5)xSO(5) symmetry

  • 1. Pennsylvania Univ., Philadelphia (USA). Dept. of Physics

Description

An interacting boson model (IBM) type of hamiltonian is derived from a model which simulates (in two dimensions) a two-level shell model with quadrupole and pairing interactions and carries the symmetry SO(5) x SO(5). This derivation is based upon a variational method for the trace of the hamiltonian designed to decouple collective from non-collective degrees of freedom. The results for such an IBM are compared with the results of exact diagonalizations. A conjecture is made that the actual IBM may be related to a hybrid of boson mappings rather than to one definite mapping. (orig.)
