Description
Experiments were performed with neutron radiography to study the moisture distribution in Malaysian wood samples. Water can be detected very efficiently by neutron due to the high neutron scattering probability of hydrogen in water molecules; therefore, this method was found very sensitive in investigation of moisture transport in wood samples. Several types of Malaysian wood samples have been used in this study. Experimental set-up using neutron source from MINT TRIGA Reactor, detection technique used are described. Qualitative information obtained from the radiographic images provides a general understanding of the behaviour of wood during its interaction with moisture under different conditions. Results obtained also indicate the potential for further use in this method in solving several moisture-related practical problems in wood manufacturing industry. (Author)
