Theoretical explanation of the poloidal asymmetry of impurity spectral line emission in collisional tokamak plasmas

  • 1. General Atomic Co., San Diego, CA (USA)

Description

The Pfirsch-Schlueter theory of diffusion is invoked to calculate the poloidal asymmetry in the impurity ion distribution in a tokamak. The results predict the sign of the asymmetry and the same kind of parametric dependences as are observed in Alcator. In addition, the theory is capable of explaining the change in the sign of the asymmetry observed during discharges in the Princeton Large Torus. (author)
