Risk importance measures are currently being used in the identification of risk significant systems, structures, and components (SSCs) and human actions. The author discusses current ideas concerning the appropriate use of importance measures, a number of potential pitfalls that can arise when computing and employing these measures, and a number recommendations for avoiding these pitfalls
