A simple 13 BIT spectroscopy ADC

  • 1. Nuclear Science Centre, New Delhi (India)

Description

Gamma ray spectroscopy using high resolution Germanium detectors require 8K channel pulse ADCs with good differential and linearity and stability. This paper explains a design using 16 bit successive approximation ADC chip, AD676, from Analog Devices. SA technique does not provide good differential linearity and techniques like sliding scale are used to improve DNL. This design does not use such techniques but the results obtained are at par with an 8K Wilkinson ADC, Canberra 8075 NIM module
