Precision tests of the standard model and search for the Higgs boson
Description
Precision tests of the Standard Model of Electroweak Interactions are reviewed, with emphasis on recent developments at LEP. The global fit of electroweak data yields an upper bound for the Higgs mass of 196 GeV at 95% confidence level. Direct searches for the Standard Model Higgs boson at LEP are briefly described. The combination of LEP data shows a preference for a Higgs boson mass around 115 GeV, the probability for the background to generate such an effect being about 2σ. A lower bound of 114.1 GeV at 95% confidence level has been obtained from direct searches
